Vietnam sets high goals in developing information technology infrastructure, entering the top 10 leading countries in Asia in terms of domain names.

The Deputy Minister of Information and Communications said that the "Information and Communications Infrastructure Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050" has a particularly important meaning and role in implementing strategic breakthroughs in building a synchronous and modern infrastructure system.

“Effective implementation of planning will help "smarten" socio-economic infrastructure, thereby effectively exploiting development resources, as well as creating new driving forces to promote faster, more effective and more sustainable socio-economic development,” said the Deputy Minister of Information and Communications.

 

Sharing about the planning for the development of information and communication infrastructure, the Deputy Director in charge of the Institute of Strategy, Ministry of Information and Communications said that information and communication infrastructure is a unified entity, formed on the basis of the connection between the postal network, digital infrastructure, IT industrial infrastructure, national digital transformation platforms and the system to ensure network information security, network security, creating a safe and reliable environment for the development of digital government, digital economy and digital society.

Information and Communications Infrastructure is the infrastructure for national digital transformation, opening up new development space for the socio-economy, linking development in the digital space with the traditional physical development space, creating a favorable environment for innovation to enhance national competitiveness.

Information and communication infrastructure planning is the concretization of the national master plan, planning of related sectors on space, arrangement and use of resources, concretization of the Party and State's guidelines and policies related to the development of information and communication infrastructure.

Therefore, the main goal of the planning is to determine and provide goals, directions, development requirements and solutions for the development of technical infrastructure of the information and communication industry in 5 areas: government, digital infrastructure, IT industrial infrastructure, national digital transformation platforms and systems to ensure network information security and network security.

Specifically, by 2025, Vietnam's digital infrastructure will be in the group of 50 leading countries according to the information and communications technology development index (IDI) of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Vietnam ranks first in ASEAN, among the top 10 countries in Asia, among the top 20-30 countries in the world in terms of the number of national domain names; and among the top 20 countries in the world in converting the Internet to IPv6.

Regarding network information security, Vietnam aims to maintain the ranking of 25 to 30 leading countries in the Global Cyber ​​Security and Safety Index (GCI) according to the assessment of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

“Although some targets, such as conversion rate and the use of new generation Internet addresses, have been achieved and even exceeded at present. However, in the context of a world that is moving and changing extremely quickly, in order for other targets to also be achieved and maintain the desired position in the set targets, it will require high determination and the cooperation of each ministry, sector, locality, enterprise and related agencies,” he said.
